What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file that this site asks your browser to store and to send back on your next request. It is how a website can remember anything at all between one page and the next — which cart is yours, that you are signed in, which country you chose to shop in.
This page lists every category of cookie this site uses and what each one is for. Where a cookie holds personal data, the Privacy Policy explains how we handle it.
Strictly necessary cookies
These make the store work. Without them you could not keep a cart or sign in, so they are set on every visit and there is nothing to opt into.
- Your cart — holds the identifier of the cart on our server, so that the things you added are still there when you come back. Kept for 30 days.
- Your sign-in — holds the token that proves you are signed in. It cannot be read by page scripts. Kept for 7 days, or until you sign out.
- Your recent orders — holds the identifiers of the orders placed from this browser, so that an order confirmation page can show you the full order rather than a bare receipt. Kept for 1 year.
- Cart hand-over — set only when signing in did not manage to move your cart onto your account, so the site can offer you a retry. Removed as soon as that succeeds, and kept for 30 days at most.
- Account sign-up in progress — while you create an account, holds the name and phone number you entered until the account exists, then removed. Kept for 1 day at most.
- A discount code you arrived with — if you followed a link carrying a code, the code is held until there is a cart to apply it to, then removed. Kept for 30 days at most.
- A per-browser cache key — a random identifier used only to keep one shopper's cached account data separate from another's. Kept for 24 hours.
Preference cookies
These remember a choice you made, so you do not have to make it again.
- Your country — set only when you choose a country yourself: at the foot of any page, or by changing the shipping country at checkout. Each country has its own store address (such as metaxring.com/en-us or metaxring.com/en-de), and that address is what sets the prices, the currency and where we ship to. When you later open an address without a country in it — our home page, or a link in one of our emails — we take you to the store of the country you chose. Kept for 1 year. If you have not chosen a country, we go by the country your IP address points to (or our default store if we do not ship there) each time, and nothing is stored.
Your light or dark appearance choice is not a cookie: it is stored in your browser's local storage and is never sent to us. Closing the notice that we cannot yet ship to your country is not a cookie either: it is remembered in your browser's session storage and forgotten when you close the tab.
Analytics and advertising cookies
This site sets none. We do not run analytics, advertising, retargeting or social media tracking, and no third party is allowed to set a cookie through these pages. If that ever changes, this page will change with it and we will ask for your consent before any such cookie is set.
How to control cookies
Every browser lets you see the cookies a site has set, delete them, and refuse new ones — usually under privacy or site settings. You can also browse in a private window, which discards all of them when you close it.
Blocking the strictly necessary cookies above will not stop you reading the site, but it will stop you keeping a cart, signing in and checking out.
